Eternal Vow, Performed by Roland Gjernes

As long as I can remember, music has been a core part of my life. My parents prioritized music education for myself and my brothers, and in choosing an instrument, my parents tell me that I was drawn to the low notes of the cello. While those memories are hazy for me; the sound quality, range, and the possibilities of expression that can be achieved on the cello have continued to drive my musical journey.

I've been fortunate to tour with the Broadway Musical, Hamilton. And what continues to inspire me as I've performed that same show in many cities is the impact we leave on audience members. It's the connection with other people, through music, that makes music so incredibly valuable.

In this wild ride of a year, I've had the opportunity to learn and explore other ways of presenting music to an audience, without relying on live performance. "The Eternal Vow," from "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," has long been a favourite theme of mine. My Dad has been asking me for years to record a version of it, and so I finally sat down and made my own arrangement. In my opinion this piece beautifully and delicately captures an entanglement of light and dark - love and loss.

“For those of you who are fighting for a better world. Who see a vision of what could be, but don't yet see that vision fully realized. Know that the work you do is good. Even a small step forward is still a step in the right direction, and the world is made a better place because of you.” Roland Gjernes

I'm Free - Sultans of String feat. Waleed Abdulhamid

“For this video, we asked our fans and the public to send in photos and depictions of what they are missing the most, what they really, really want to do when COVID-19 restrictions lift. We were totally overwhelmed with the response, and it was a fun jigsaw puzzle to shoehorn in all the beautiful, quirky, and heartwarming messages. COVID-19 has been pretty rough for a lot of people, and we wanted to create something that helps connect us all, provide some hope and joy, and help us envision our future we can create when we get past this pandemic” (Sultan of String).
